“Here’s a story, of a man named Brady…” We all can remember the classic theme song to the beloved tv series “The Brady Bunch.” The story centers around two established families missing the mom or dad from the other family. The first episode aired September 26, 1969 where a mom of three girls marries a man of three boys. And so the adventure began, the romance, moving into a new home and getting things to blend as smoothly as possible.
Here’s a story of a man named Wells who is the father of four and a mother with a family of two kids. Yes, a Dad, Mom, three girls and three boys, is starting a new life together.
The story begins in 2016 when Jacqueline Akin from Milan, TN. was traveling with her job as a corporate trainer teaching a ‘New Hire’ training class in Evansville, IN. Jacqueline stopped in a restaurant to relax after a hard day. Derrick Wells, a franchise owner/financial advisor, was also relaxing in the same restaurant when he noticed Jacqueline sitting alone. Intrigued by Jacqueline, Derrick made his way over to her and introduced himself. After they had talked for a while, Derrick told her that he found her attractive and asked for her phone number. Jacqueline, laughing, asked “Why would I give a stranger my phone number?” Derrick responded, “Let’s make a deal; if we have one mutual Facebook friend, will you give me your phone number?” Jacqueline intrigued, agreed to the wager. She thought to herself, ‘what are the chances of that.’
They logged onto Facebook and, you guessed it, they had one mutual friend. Derrick was originally from South Fulton, TN and their friend’s paths crossed. Upon discovering their mutual Facebook friend, Derrick smiled and requested from Jacqueline, “I’ll be getting that phone number about right now.” And they hit it off.
After a few months of courtship, they were on separate business trips traveling in Florida, they met up there and Derrick proposed to Jacqueline. She knew he was the one she wanted to marry. On May 7, 2017, they combined the two families in a ceremony at the Tulip Tree Wedding Chapel in Jackson, TN.
Getting the family together is no problem. They all seem to get along great. Nate is in college and the others are in local schools. It’s quite an adjustment growing to having six kids and two parents. Space is tight but with time, they will adjust.
Not only did Derrick and Jacqueline get married, combined with six children, start a new life, but also purchased the Tulip Tree Wedding Chapel the first of June. Jacqueline wanted to get out of traveling so much and spend time raising the kids. When she found out that the Chapel was for sale, she and Derrick jumped at the opportunity.
The Chapel at Tulip Tree Lake was established. With a house on site next to the Chapel, they are quickly renovating both the house and the Chapel for a new and refreshing look and feel. Their plans for the Chapel will include upper scale weddings and events. We want to have live music on the lake, outdoor weddings with the ability to serve wine and other liquor type drinks.
The Chapel will be available to families for reunions, photographers to use the facilities for senior, family and bridal portraits, chapel services and much more. Jacqueline comments, “Derrick and I have such grand plans for the new Chapel. We want to see it grow and be a show piece for weddings and events alike. We are in the throes of renovating the grounds and buildings. The inside of the Chapel has already seen some changes including new floors and arrangements from Kendrick Floral Company. They have so many wonderful ideas for the future and direction of the Chapel.
We plan to have an open house in the near future.
After chasing the corporate dream, Jacqueline states “Sometimes when you get what you think you want and get it, you realize it’s not what you wanted after all.” In the back of her mind, she always wanted to have a wedding style business. Not until recently did those visions come into a realization. Jacqueline’s view is, “Never give up on a dream.”
Pray about it and set your sights and blessings can unfold.
